Hello,
I am an Google Workspace Admin of my company and I have run into a problem.
When making a content compliance rule, even though I only want that rule to check the body, it also checks all mail attachments, which I don’t want.
Is there any way to make thoses rules only check the body of emails and not attachments ?
If not, do you know a workaround to make it work ?
Thanks in advance.
I have not tried this myself, but I believe you might be able to use a Regular Expression match instead -
-
Go to Apps > Google Workspace > Gmail > Compliance.
-
Edit your existing rule or create a new one.
-
Under Expressions, choose Advanced content match.
-
Set the Location to Body.
-
Set the Match type to RegEx match.
-
In the Expression field, enter your specific keywords using RegEx syntax.
Won’t it still look for that content in attachments ?
My issue is more about the fact that those rules check attachments.
I believe that setting the Location to Body should prevent the search from including attachments.

If we were to replace every single content compliance rules, since we have so many of them, I’ve heard that it might make inbound mail distribution even slower. Yet I’ve still tried with regex and the “body” still includes attachments. Is this only an issue with Google Workspace for Non-Profits or do every version of it have that problem ?
