Apigee’s Google Cloud Next 2026 Recap

  • One of the big topics at Next was the need for Agent Governance. Organizations are now bringing agents from MVP into production and need a way to control them. This was highlighted by TK in his Opening Keynote and the Developer Keynote, showing how to secure an agent by preventing write access to a tool.

  • Our breakout session, Unlocking Enterprise Actions: Bridge Your APIs to AI Agents with MCP and Apigee, was a great success.

  • Other announcements:

    • Agent Registry is now Public Preview — providing a centralized view of agent entities across environments.

    • SpecBoost is now Public Preview — a tool to auto-generate agent-optimized specs for converted MCP servers.

    • Demoed Apigee JSON-RPC support (including the new ParsePayload policy), available now for Hybrid 1.16.1+.

    • A new UI to select specific operations from a Spec for an API Product to prevent context bloat. Agents Skills also introduced.
