▶ AI Powered API Templating with Apigee & Antigravity CLI | Community TechTalk recording

Hello Apigee Community! :waving_hand:

In our latest TechTalk, Tyler Ayers demonstrates how to streamline proxy generation and testing using Apigee YAML templates, the Antigravity CLI, and AI-assisted templating skills. He explores how declarative templating replaces tedious manual XML/JSON scaffolding, ensuring consistent API proxy delivery across teams.

Declarative templating architecture :gear:

Building and validating enterprise proxies requires an architecture that bridges fast local iteration with structured, production-ready deployments:

  • Native binary performance via Bun: The new version 5 of the open-source Apigee Feature Templator (AFT) CLI is built on Bun, providing cross-platform single binaries for Linux, macOS, and Windows.

  • Declarative YAML proxy definitions: Standardizing proxy configurations, policies, endpoints, and embedded JavaScript resources into unified YAML documents aligned with official Google Cloud CLI beta tooling.

  • Component composability: Breaking proxy logic into reusable feature units (such as Firestore CRUD endpoints or API key verification) that combine cleanly into master deployment templates.

Key takeaways from the session :light_bulb:

Tyler presented a live walkthrough demonstrating prompt-to-proxy development with AI tools.

Using the Antigravity CLI alongside the Gemini 3.8 Flash model, he demonstrated how natural language prompts automatically compile into validated, schema-compliant Apigee YAML definitions. Tyler also demonstrated local automated testing using the Apigee Emulator Docker container, executing local traffic calls, capturing trace files without cloud deployment delays, and visualizing execution stages in real time. Finally, he shared an experimental preview of AFT Preflight, which compiles Apigee YAML proxies directly into TypeScript classes for in-memory testing.
