Why can we not install dev portal on the same server as Apigee Edge Components?

We plan to to install dev portal for internal use only. The document below warns we cannot install it on the same server as apigee edge.

Why is it so? and what could happen if we install it on a node with management server-UI and / or Cassandra-Zookeeper?
