Hello guys.
I’ve seen Apppsheet being left behind, and I’m afraid about what would happen to my apps. Since I was paid to create apps as a developer and my clients would certainly complain if it happened.
Hello guys.
I’ve seen Apppsheet being left behind, and I’m afraid about what would happen to my apps. Since I was paid to create apps as a developer and my clients would certainly complain if it happened.
A very legitimate question! You definitely should be thinking about this.
Thanks @Steve,
@peterson, welcome back!!! a pleasure to meet you.
Although we don’t have a public roadmap to share just yet, AppSheet is here to stay. We invite you to stay active in this community and help us shape the future of the tool with your feedback.
Thank you vvery much for your reply. It is good to know.
@Jose_Arteaga, what happened to the January office hours?
FYI all my clients figured out appsheet is not right platform to build apps for anything enterprise and moved out of appsheet. If you ask gpt or gemini it outright rejects appsheet as a tool for anything serious. Try to compare it with retool or any other platforms.
Dear @Rifad
While you, like many other members of this forum, have been instrumental in steering Appsheet development over the years by providing help to users and advice to the Appsheet team, you are paradoxically probably not the target customer for Appsheet. If you are a professional coder, then there must indeed be tens of better platforms out there, let alone Claude Code. But my take is that Appsheet is and has always been for the rest of us, i.e what people call the “Excel wizard” who want to help their team getting more efficient, have found most no-code tools too limited and see Appscript as an uncomprehensible cipher!
The entire software industry is now in total disarray as we don’t know how far coding agents will be able to replace what is done today, so you could argue that your question applies to so many other platforms. No one knows and only time will tell.
But if Google sees continuous increase in Appsheet usage, not with big app development projects but with the more nimble internal workflow improvement apps, and that usage contributes to revenue growth, they will probably not drop it in the near future. And yes, they will prioritize integration with AI and Gemini over any other feature that this community has been asking for, but they are right to do so.
Interesting, thank you.
@Steve @Rifad 2 years ago you guys were talking about this…. Interesting and very concerning as I too have been paid to develop multiple AppSheet solutions (since 2017) - some are indeed enterprise and I am the contracted custodian. It does seem to have gone very quiet on the Google front. Another concerning thing is that I have been trying to sort out a licensing issue lately and Google themselves don’t seem to really understand their own AppSheet licensing model/s and what shows on my licensing console contradicts their own model. I personally think it’s here to stay but suspect that Google are working through some kind of internal issues at the moment. This is my speculative opinion and I can only pray they sort it out soon. I also truly believe it’s an amazing product that is actually in it’s infancy - squatting to rise to its potential under Google.
To avoid platform obsolescence, Appsheet must guarantee and allow the download of the user-created applications and databases so they can be installed on a server or computer belonging to the creator. This is a crucial requirement that we, as customers, should demand from the platforms in which we invest our time, effort, and money.
Does anyone know of an alternative to Appsheet that allows users to download created applications and databases?
Thanks
In my opinion this is worth checking: https://drapcode.com/, however if you think of writing/maintaining code it makes sense to just write it. This is the magic of tools like AppSheet. You get it sorted for ya. No need to think about that. I know this what I am saying, might seem strange for someone but isn’t that truth? If you know how to write code/work with code, you could easily build workflows and logic built in AppSheet app. Actually these days it is easier than ever. As for frontend, we have plenty of choice. This is just my opinion, please don’t take it personally.
I totally agree that we should know the roadmap for AppSheet and get more commitment from staff but let’s be honest, it is Google and they have other problems… Question is why, why do they treat community like that? I have no idea and I’d love to find out.
We will see if anything changes soon (yesterday/earlier today they announced March Office Hours). If this what I have seen somewhere in the meantime (Gantt and iFrame views) is a truth, it could be awesome update. Especially iFrame! Hope it will be available for custom domains as well.
