Trash Bin for Gemini Gems and NotebookLM Notebooks

Hi,

it would be good to have a Trash Bin functionality for Notebooks in NotebookLM and Gemini Gems. People are starting to delete those by mistake and they find out there is no way to recover them, and recreating them from scratch with 300 sources and re-sharing to each user is just a crime against humanity.

As shareable Gems are now in Drive, will we also see both Gems and Notebooks moving to Drive? In addition to recovery from deletion, it would enable DLP functionality, alerting & reporting, backup..

Hello Roberto,

That’s a painful problem! You are totally right; a Trash Bin is desperately needed for NotebookLM and Gems.

The quick solution is to send this feedback directly to Google:

  1. In the App: Look for the Help (?) or Settings (:gear:) icon in Gemini.

  2. Send Feedback: Use the Send Feedback option to ask them to add a recovery/trash feature.

Hey,

Hope you’re keeping well.

NotebookLM and Gemini currently don’t provide a native “Trash” or soft‑delete feature, so once an item is deleted it’s permanently removed from the account. The most practical workaround is to maintain periodic exports or backups of your notebooks and Gems, either by downloading source content locally or storing copies in Google Drive for quick restoration. If this is a critical workflow need, I’d recommend submitting it through the Help > Send feedback option in each product so it’s logged directly with the product team, as feature requests from active users carry more weight for roadmap consideration.

Thanks and regards,
Taz
