How do I get the initial value to be today’s date in format MM-DD-YY. I’ve currently got:
but that gives the time HH:MM:SS as well.
Could you please update what is the column type and where you are getting time displayed - in the app or in the backend sheet?

Change the column type from DateTime to Date to remove the time component.
The display format for a Date value is determined by the device, not by AppSheet.
