Stacked bar charts showing "-" rather than percentages on hover

We have reports with stacked bar charts that are set to show a count as well as a percentage on hover. However, the percentage is currently just showing as (-). I’m assuming this is a bug…are others seeing this too?

Yes, I’m seeing the same thing in multiple dashboards. Recreating the chart, resetting various options, etc. doesn’t work to restore the missing values.

A workaround is to enable “Show total card” which at least makes the percentages available to end-users, but it’s not ideal.

Yes, I’m observing the same issue, but it only occurs in legacy (older) reports — newly created reports are not affected.

When I copy a stacked bar chart from an affected (old) report and paste it into a new report, the percentage data labels render correctly.
Conversely, when I copy a functioning stacked bar chart from a new report and paste it into an old one, the percentage labels fail to render.

This suggests that the issue is related to data label rendering in stacked bar charts within older report instances, possibly due to a change in how Looker Studio handles chart configuration metadata between report versions.

Should we just ‘upgrade’ all our existing report to the “New report experience”? It feels like the old ones are failing quite often.

I am experiencing this issue on essential visuals on several dashboards. Thus far, I keep seeing that I should re-create the report. Aside from that, are there any other efficient ways to rectify the visualization issues? Re-creating each of the dashboards would be very inefficient.

Creating a copy of the report using the “Make a copy” button does not resolve the issue.

The only effective workaround that I know is to:

  1. Create a new blank report,

  2. Copy all elements from the existing report, and

  3. Paste them manually, page by page, into the new report.

This method fixes the issue, except for the theme colors, which must be re-applied manually.

Since we have not yet received any feedback from Google, we do not know whether a permanent fix is planned or in progress, or if we should stop waiting and start rebuilding the report ourselves.
