Shift-left API development: Automated testing & CI/CD with the Apigee Emulator | Community TechTalk on Oct 8, 2026

How long does your team wait to validate a change to an API proxy?

Waiting for remote cloud deployments during early development stages introduces friction and slows down feedback loops. By adopting modern shift-left testing strategies, engineering teams can validate proxies locally, run sub-second assertion suites in CI/CD, and establish clear separation between unit checks and end-to-end cloud validation.

On Thursday, October 8, 2026, join Nigel Walters for a technical deep dive into automated testing with the Apigee Local Emulator and the open-source apigee-emulator-service.

The architecture breakdown :globe_with_meridians:

  • Sub-second local testing: Execute automated assertion suites directly on your workstation using the Apigee Local Emulator without provisioning cloud infrastructure.

  • Pipeline automation: Integrate the open-source apigee-emulator-service into CI/CD workflows, such as GitHub Actions, for fast pull-request verification.

  • Cloud Run preview environments: Host lightweight emulator instances on Google Cloud Run to provide shareable, isolated testing endpoints for development teams.

  • Enterprise QA pyramid: Establish the right balance between emulator-based unit testing and live runtime validation across Apigee X and Apigee Hybrid deployments.

The shift-left approach makes a lot of sense for API proxy development. Being able to run fast local assertions and CI checks before deploying to Apigee should make it much easier to catch issues early and keep cloud environments focused on integration and end-to-end validation. The Cloud Run preview environment also sounds useful for teams that need a shared testing endpoint.
