Report Orphaned/Inaccessible After Owner Account Deletion and Recovery

I am seeking urgent assistance to recover a critical Looker Studio report that became inaccessible after its owner’s Google account was temporarily deleted and then successfully recovered. The file is currently not visible in either the owner’s or the editor’s Looker Studio dashboards or Trash folders.

1. Report Identification

2. Account and Timeline Details

  • Original Creator/Current Editor Email: (PII Removed by Staff) (personal account)

  • New Owner/Recovered Account Email: (PII Removed by Staff) (Business account)

  • Date of Owner Transfer: Dec 4, 2025

  • Date Owner Account was Deleted: Dec 4, 2025

  • Date Owner Account was Successfully Recovered: Dec 4, 2025

3. Problem Description & Attempts to Fix

The file was owned by ([PII Removed by Staff]@gmail) and I ([PII Removed by Staff]@gmail) was an editor.

  1. When the owner’s account was deleted, the file disappeared.

  2. The owner’s Google account was successfully recovered, but the Looker Studio file did not restore automatically.

  3. The file is not visible in the Looker Studio home screen under “Owned by me” or “Shared with me” for either account.

  4. I have thoroughly checked the Trash folder on both accounts, and the file is not present there.

  5. When attempting to open the report via the link, both accounts receive an error and are led to believe the other account is the owner, suggesting a metadata conflict or orphaned asset status.

Could a Looker Studio team member please investigate the status of this Report ID and manually re-associate it with the recovered owner account or my editor account?

Thank you for your help.

Hey,

Hope you’re keeping well.

When a Looker Studio report’s owner account is deleted, the asset can become orphaned if ownership metadata isn’t correctly restored during account recovery. Looker Studio doesn’t automatically re-link orphaned assets, even if the Google account is reinstated the same day. Since the report isn’t visible in either account’s dashboard or Trash and the direct URL fails to resolve, this will require intervention from Google support to restore ownership.

I recommend contacting Google Workspace/Looker Studio support and providing the Report ID, original owner email, recovery timeline, and the full URL.

Thanks and regards,
Taz
