I am trying to build a spreadsheet to show arrival times in real-time so I can see any delays in certain flights in google sheets. Hopefully free. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Are you wanting help constructing the spreadsheet or an AppSheet app? This is an AppSheet Platform Community.
Note that AppSheet is NOT a “real-time” platform. So it’s a matter of what delay you can tolerate?
To get the arrival data, you either need to find a service that will send the data to your sheet …or… you will need to create a Script to call a service to pull in the data and then insert it into the sheet.
HOWEVER, for that data to make its way to a users device, a Sync needs to occur. There is no automated way to force a users device to update once the data has arrived into the sheet. A user can manually tap the Sync button at any time they wish to get the latest data. You can add, to some view navigation expression, a parameter to “force sync” the app. but this is only activated by the users action of tapping the button.
So what I would do is create a custom navigation action button to an “Arrivals” view that includes a “force sync”. I would use that button anywhere I want the user to have the ability to get access to the Arrivals. While in the Arrivals view, I would present a message to the user that updates are not automatic while in the view and to get latest they need to tap the Sync button.
I hope this helps!
I’m pretty new here too, so it’s awesome to connect with fellow spreadsheet enthusiasts. I feel like these spreadsheets are literally in every field now. Regarding your real-time flight tracker quest, I stumbled upon this neat Guide to Miami Private Jet Charter recently – it’s not directly related, but it might have some useful tips or data sources for your sheet! Also, have you checked out https://www.aerialjets.com? I found it super handy for flight info. Wishing you smooth sailing (or flying) in your spreadsheet adventure!
