Reactivation time after billing suspension – payment completed

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to understand how long it usually takes for a Google Cloud project to become active again after being suspended due to a billing issue.

Our account was suspended because the credit card expired. We’ve since updated the card and successfully completed the payment. We received confirmation emails for both the payment and the account update.

However, the project still appears empty — no data, no project status, no visible activity — even though the billing account is now marked as active.

It’s been over 24 hours since the payment went through. Has anyone experienced something similar? How long did it take for your project and services (like Cloud Storage) to be reactivated?

Thank you in advance for any insight!

Hello @oscargalfaro , Welcome on Googl****e Cloud Community.

It depends on how long this project has been suspended. See, your resources are active as long as your billing status is okay. If you have issues with payments, Google Cloud will automatically shut down resources and start suspending them. During suspension, Google Cloud services within your projects are shut down. This means your virtual machines stop, Cloud Storage buckets become inaccessible, and other services cease operation.

If your Cloud Billing account remains invalid for a protracted period ( 30 days) , some resources might be removed from the projects associated with your account. Removed resources are not recoverable. See the Resolve Cloud Billing issues page for more information.

You might need to manually restart services that were shut down while the Cloud Billing account was suspended. See Restarting Google Cloud services for information on restarting your services. As far as I know, services like cloud storage, are deleted immediately after suspension.

If this helped, mark it as a “Accepted Solution”!
