Problems validating Building a DevOps Pipeline lab in the "Reliable Google Cloud Infrastructure: Design and Process" course

Hi all,

I’m trying to finish the “Reliable Google Cloud Infrastructure: Design and Process” course, but I can’t get the Building a DevOps Pipeline lab (Sign in | Google Skills) to validate properly - everything seems to work apart from the validation for task 4, “Manage Docker images with Cloud Build and Artifact Registry”, all the later steps validate without problem.

I’ve had this occur on several attempts, each time with the lab being set up in a different region.

The error I get is: “Please create a VM instance with given configuration” , which is a bit frustrating since the only configuration to do is to supply a docker image as the “deploy container” with an address of region--docker.pkg.dev/<PROJECT_ID>/devops-repo/devops-image:v0.1, and to allow http traffic to the instance via the networking tab. Basically the same thing (though different container address) as for task 6 later on which validated :man_shrugging:

I’ve sent qwiklabs support a mail, but from experience I’m hoping that you all will be more helpful!

If anyone has had this problem, or can suggest a solution, please leave a reply!

Managed to get this solved - many thanks to Qwiklabs support for their help!

Apparently it’s a known problem that at times the “validation script for this lab might sometimes not correctly recognize that the VM is serving the web page. If this reoccurs the next step is to clear your browser’s cache and cookies. Sometimes, old data can interfere with the lab’s ability to properly check your work.”

Silly of me not to have remembered to clear the cache and delete the cookies because this solved the problem.

Hope this might be of help to someone in the future.

I am also facing same issue. And did the lab in incognito window. Not getting resolved

same issue here - using incognito window. Also seeing that the process shows the vm creation from the source is deprecated. I have only run the lab once. Will be attempting it again and seeing if I can find work around.

i have a solution..

I ran through it a second time - zones switched and everything worked this time.
