I am assuming you are referring to a Time series chart.
In order to order points on an X and Y axis, both axis’s need ordered data. “Location” is usually not ordered.
Location can be ordered, assuming it is in coordinates, as those range from high to low, so if you were trying to find where a car was in relation to the equator, you could possibly use that.
If you are referring to having the Y-Axis have a different labels, looker studio does not currently have a great way of doing this. If you freeze the Y-Axis, you can add text labels that refer to labels for your ordered location numbers and hide those numbers, but if you ever add more locations it can mess the chart up.
Without seeing your specific use case, its hard to help. Can you add an example on a public looker studio or attach screen captures of your issue?
The data for Location is not in co-ordinates but are Location names in Text (Site name/Building name).
And plotting text data on the Y axis is a bit tricky in Looker Studio.
The data looks something like the image below.
I’ve entered t1/t2/t3 just as an example for Time usually it is a normal Timestamp.
I’ve tried using the Line chart / Time series chart but both set the Y axis as a number, so when I select Location under measure it gives me a count of Location over time which is not helpful.
I would like to see Location names vs Time in the chart for a particular trip.
I see, while I am not sure how to make this work other than what I said previously, I would like to recommend an alternative. Have you tried the Gantt or “Timeline” chart? They show categorical data’s existence over time, which looks to be what you are trying to do.
