I am writing to report a recurring issue with my data visualization report.

Issue: I’ve been using an Excel file as a data source for a visualization report in Looker Studio. Starting about a week ago, the visualization has been interrupted with the following error message:

“Data set configuration Error - Looker Studio cannot connect to your dataset.”

I have checked existing support threads and found that several other users are experiencing the same exact issue.
This suggests the problem might be widespread or related to a recent system update.

Could you please provide the official and definitive solution or detailed steps to troubleshoot and resolve this specific connection error when using an Excel file data source?

but still wanna know the solution to the fundamental problem.

Glad I could help, I guess it maybe a plugin/extraction problem or compatibility issue with the Excel workbook. I guess looker studio team might already be looking into it.
