Hello - I created multiple bar charts in Looker Studio (on both a windows thinkpad & macbook pro). The property panel does not display most of the time… sometimes it seems to but most of the time it will not following the normal practice (when I click on the bar chart in edit mode it should show the panel on the right side of the screen). The data panel is also glithcy… sometimes it displays the correct list of data fields, and other times it shows a strange mix of all the available tables with no fields. I don’t see a way here to attach screenshots so I will do so hopefully as a followup in this post thread.
See screenshot below. The bar chart is clicked / selected but the properties panel is not displaying the expected options. I’ve tried many things such as deleted, recreated or refresh or shutdown the computer et al but I just can’t get the controls to sow up. Very infrequently (but not repeatably it will show up but then I can’t get into the style sub panel or the input/select fields are all misformatted). I can’t event switch to a different chart type as the dropdown that does display in the properties panel doesn’t function. For other chart types on other pages or for the control son that page, the panel does seem to work.
Seeing this exact same issue. Newly created simple time series chart, everything working great. Click away to do something, then reselect the chart, and nothing shows up in the properties panel. Affects multiple users, multiple browsers, copying/pasting preserves the bug. Only fix is to fully recreate the chart, which is a totally frustrating experience.
Okay, I also figured out how to consistently reproduce this bug on my end, at least for time series charts. The issue seems to be specifically tied to the addition of “Optional Metrics”.
Steps to reproduce:
Create new time series
Add a couple metrics (not sure whether the number matters here)
Toggle optional metrics on, then add an optional metric
Click away from chart (deselect it)
Click to select the chart …. and viola! The properties panel is empty.
Exactly! this is the same scenario I found for reproducing the bug. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any tweaks or workarounds to resolve the issue, nor could I roll back the newly added optional metric. The only viable solution is to rebuild the chart from scratch!
I also tried these additional steps, along with other steps that mquintanawork has already mentiond:
Dublicate the chart.
Delete the added optinal metric & dimension from the data source settings.
Same problem here with all dashboards where both modern charts and optional metrics are enabled. For us, the problem does not occur in dashboards without the upgrade to modern charts.
We’ve been having the exact same problem. Additionaly, we can no longer adjust the time frame as we wish. We see no data in a time range under three days - only over three days.
We are finding the same issues popping up that a lot of people seem to also be encountering with the bar charts where the only thing in the side panel is the “Chart type” and nothing else. It is impossible to do anything with the charts except change the type.
Additionally, when trying to edit the report while the chart is selected nearly every fly out window from the top menu items is moved to the upper left corner of the screen. This makes it impossible to do anything with half of them as the window is too far away from the cursor to be selected. The Hover text that normally appears below the menu buttons with the button names are also moved to the far upper left corner.
Hoping this bug gets fixed soon since the idea of recreating hundreds of charts across all my reports is not at all appealing. However, given that this bug report (and others exactly like it) are months old with zero responses from Google is not encouraging….
