Hi, I noticed when a reference is automatically created by Appsheet that new entries can be added from a form, but if I make a virtual column with a REF_ROWS() formula myself it does not show up in the form.

My Question is: What are the conditions appsheet uses to auto-create a reference? is it only when you add a table with the same exact column name as an existing table?

The virtual column is auto-created when you have Ref column in another table that points to this table. It’s essentially a list of all the other references to this table from elsewhere.
