I am writing to you today to kindly request some support for a problem I am experiencing. I hope this is the correct section and method to receive feedback.
I am currently paying for the Gemini “Code Assist” standard subscription, integrated into VSCODE, which I’m using for a Flutter project. Despite the high usage limits, for some reason, after about twenty to thirty questions and automatic interactions with the code, it automatically blocks me. I receive the following error message: “[API Error: An unknown error occurred.]”, and I am forced to wait until the next day to continue. The issue persists even if I start a new chat.
Hi,
I have been running into this issue quite a bit as of late, and I just want to say that when going to Gemini Apps Help, and requesting help from the chat regarding the error; this is its reply, “I understand you’re encountering an “unknown error from llm stream” in Gemini Code Assist for VS Code, and that you’re a Code Assist Standard subscriber. I apologize, but as an AI support agent for Gemini Apps, my expertise is focused on the Gemini web app, the Gemini mobile app, and Gemini in Chrome. I don’t have information or troubleshooting steps for Gemini Code Assist for VS Code.
For general questions or to potentially find information about troubleshooting issues with Gemini Code Assist, you could try asking Gemini Apps directly at gemini.google.com.
Is there anything else I can help you with regarding Gemini Apps?”
I’ll be the first in line to say that, as a whole, AI is a great tool and unquestionably helpful. How, though, is anyone supposed to get support when the AI is not doing what it is meant to do/limited in some way, when the only support is that same AI? As well as not even getting a clear answer regarding the issue at-hand when all that is given is an agent error with it caught in a loop.
It sounds like your Gemini “Code Assist” subscription in VSCode is hitting an unexpected rate or session limit, even though your plan should allow more usage. This can trigger the “[API Error: An unknown error occurred.]” message and temporarily block further requests. To resolve it, check that your VSCode extension is updated, clear any cached sessions, and verify your account and subscription status. If the issue persists, contact Gemini support directly with your account details and error logs so they can investigate the automatic blocking behavior.
