Google Meet - Access to record the meeting for Outside organisation users

Hello, I have a business plus google suite account since May 2020 and will use it for Google meet recordings. Recently, I am not able to join the meetings due to travel and health issues. However, outside organisation participants will join and conduct the meeting but they are unable to record. Kindly enable this feature in Google meet. The meeting link will be created by the admin account and will be shared with the outside organisation participants and they should be able to record whenever it’s required without admin joining the call.

Hi @AdminLG ,

this is a common limitation in Google Meet.

Currently, only users within your organization who are licensed with recording privileges (like Business Plus) can start a recording. External participants — including invited guests or users from outside domains — cannot record meetings, even if the meeting was created by an admin from your organization.

Options to consider:

  1. Assign a licensed co-host from your organization
Have a trusted internal user join and start the recording.

  2. Use third-party recording tools (with caution)
External users can record their screen using local software (e.g., OBS, Zoom, screen recorders), but be mindful of privacy and compliance policies.

  3. Submit feedback to Google
Use the “Help & feedback” option in Google Meet to request this feature — many admins have asked for delegated recording rights for external guests.

Unfortunately, Google Meet does not currently support what you’re asking — even with a Business Plus license.
