In GA4, I have separate properties for each site I manage. I’ve set up custom variables such as “click_label”, “click_loc”, and “click_text” for each property. In Looker Studio, I’ve set GA4 as the data source and use controls to switch between properties for data visualization.
For Site A’s data, the custom variable values are retrieved and displayed correctly. However, when I switch to Property B, although the custom variable names are the same, the content becomes different (for example, the value of click_label becomes click_text), which is causing issues.
When I check in GA4’s Explorations, I’ve confirmed that Site B’s custom variables are being measured with the intended values, but this phenomenon only occurs when displaying in Looker Studio.
As a test, when I edit the data source connection and reconnect to Site B’s property, the attached dialog appears.
What concerns me here is that the new fields click_label and click_loc also exist in the unmapped fields. Are they being retrieved as separate fields?
Has anyone had a similar experience? Also, please point out if there’s anything I’m overlooking. I’ve also attached screenshots of the GA4 custom definitions.
