I, like many others, have the exact same problem.
Tried your solution but it did not worked. Maybe I’m doing something wrong 'couse even after puting the formula on initial value and mark “reset on edit” and setting the “valid if” value it only updates after I edit and save just like before…
Can you share more details on what you did to make it work?
