Flagged content

Discourse on this site has been quite civil in my experience. But, with rare exceptions I would say that discourse among AppSheet creators has always been pretty civil. The new thing I notice here is that I see a lot of comments marked “flagged by community” that make me wonder what terrible things have been said. Today I saw a case where a comment from a user was marked “flagged by community” and then that comment was followed by a perfectly civil, useful comment by the same user.

I can’t see any of these flagged posts so I wonder what might be going on. Are there really that many offensive comments being made? I’d appreciate a comment or two from people with status that allows them to view the flagged posts.

Could this “or send a personal message” be causing confusion? Or, perhaps “privately flag this post for attention” makes people think that flagging is a way of bookmarking when in fact they are preventing others from seeing the post. At any rate, I suspect something is leading to a good deal of false positives.

I flag comments that seem to be off-topic. In my past experience, I’ve seen posters flag their own posts as an attempt to delete it, perhaps not realizing they could just delete it directly.

That makes sense. It’s good to keep things on topic. And what you described fits with my experience of really nasty comments being relatively rare.
