Hello All,

Looker Studio is introducing the following new filter enhancements to improve your user experience:

  • Easier Filter Creation: When defining filter on charts, pages, or reports, editors can now select from a list of possible filter values, helping them understand their data and eliminating the need for manual entry, thus reducing errors. Filter suggestions are supported for all data connectors.

  • Enhanced Looker Connector Integration: Editors using the Looker Connector will receive filter suggestions across all filter types when ‘suggest_explore’ and ‘suggest_dimension’ LookML attributes are defined in Looker dimensions, filter-only fields, and parameters.

  • Expanded Control Filter Options: Editors using the Looker Connector can now use Looker filter-only fields and parameter fields to define control filters, providing a more seamless and integrated Looker experience.

Our priority is to make Studio the best BI tool to consume LookML and it is only possible by increasing Looker Connector adoption. These enhancements close the gap by allowing Studio users to add filter-only fields and parameters regardless of the filter type used in the Studio report.

Hola con razón hoy me andaba muy lento mas el tema cuando queria armar un grafico de aéreas, ahora te dejo como inquietud, el tema de cuando queres agregar un linea de referencia sobre el eje X , en funcion de fecha hora, te toma como default la hora 0 y no la de mi region, entonces agregue esa linea como hora le tenia que poner 3 horas antes , entonces al pasar con el tooltip mostraba 10:00 hs cuando en realidad tenia que ser 13:00 horas.

Mis felicitaciones a vos y todo el equipo, cada mas excelente looker!!!

Nice enhancement. This especially comes in handy when the Editor is unsure of the exact values or their capitalization!

Hello!

Thank you for sharing this! I’ve been trying to replicate it. I’ve created the parameter in LookML but it is not letting me drag the Filter-only field into the control box visualization in Looker Studio.

Can you share an example of the code on LookML?

Hey,

You can define a Filter-Only Field or Parameter in LookML and once the datasource is created in Looker Studio, you should see the Filter-Only Fields and Parameters in the data panel under View Name → Filter Only Fields. If the Looker data source was already created, you need to reconnect to get the updated field information.

In Studio, follow the instructions to create a Control. Here you should be able to select parameter field in the Properties panel of the control.

Buenas ! Tengo tableros con conectar looker que me dejaron de funcionar el filtro de la fecha sobre los componentes de torta . Me paso tambien con componentes unicos . No logro solucionarlo.

This seemed good on paper, but is genuinely horrible in practice. I’ve spent 20 minutes trying to create a page path filter, but I can’t simply type in the page path any more. Instead, I’m forced to pick from a randomly assorted list of pages that cascade down from the product category one I want to use. So, for example, I can put in /shirts/ and have to manually search through 200+ iterations like /shirts/t-shirts, /shirts/sweaters, /shirts/winter, /shirts/hoodies/black, /shirts/branded, /shirts/mens, etc.

For the love of god please let me just copy and paste something in again, this is easily the most frustrating update. Or I guess it would be, the one that simply makes filters look like they’re broken after you make them is somehow even worse.

Hi!

You have to set this so that the filter can be assigned to the TIME PERIOD filter.

This is key to be able to use the database partitions and make metrics with the date_start and date_end within the semantic layer.

Please keep this in mind for the next update

Hi,

Looker filters are not working. Existing filter show errors (Invalid dimensions) that are unable to be resolve; save button is faded so updates cannot be made–it’s just impossible to work with.

I reported this issue previously and it appears other in the community are also having this problem.

Hello,

Our intent with this feature was to assist users who don’t know the data well enough to create filters. If legacy behavior is preferred, users can toggle off the “Show suggested values while typing” option

Are there any plans to fix the other problems that have launched with the new filter enhancements, like dimensions showing as invalid in filters that are actually totally valid? I’d show an image, but apparently I don’t have permission to upload them. But, as an example, I have a filter for “Include” “Session campaign” “Equal to” “[valid campaign name]”. The “Session campaign” dimension shows as invalid, but the filter works, but I’m unable to alter the filter in any way. It’s just fundamentally broken.
