Feature Request: Admin Control to Enable Gemini Chat Deletion for My Workspace Domain

I was one of the proponents in our org - saying Gemini was a better option than ChatGPT because we all use Gmail and Gemini is better integrated.

Not letting my users delete their own chats is making me seriously re-think my stance. It’s such a basic data hygiene thing… ChatGPT has this. Quickly running out of reasons to push Gemini.

I understand why some orgs need to prevent chats from being deleted. I can’t imagine they are in the majority. Let the org admin decide whether to let users delete, sure. But don’t block it outright!

The admin panel does have a checkbox for “Let users delete their own conversations with Gemini in Workspace.” But it only applies to Workspace. So maybe they will soon add it to the app? :crossed_fingers:

We urgently need the ability for Google Workspace users to manually delete their own chat history in the standalone Gemini web app (gemini.google.com) an mobile app. Currently, users rely entirely on the admin-defined auto-deletion policy (e.g., 3 months).

For strict data hygiene and security compliance, users must have the agency to immediately purge specific conversations once a task is completed, rather than leaving an unnecessary data footprint for months.

Google recently introduced manual deletion capabilities for the Gemini side panel within Workspace apps (like Google Docs and Gmail). It is highly illogical and confusing for users that this basic privacy control is available there, but completely missing from the main Gemini web application.

It is truely unbelieveable that Google does not fix this issue for such a long time.

It’s SOOOOOOOO frustrating. Allow admins to be able to delete conversation history, its such as flawed experience I’m thinking about just canceling my account and going to Claude. allow users both admin and non admin to delete their messages, messages can still be retained or archived while admins have an option of deleting that data entirely. its soo stupid

Makes really difficult to have a tidy environment without this feature, after some weeks is really a mess!

At least an Archive option.

I agree. Why wouldn’t this missing capability get called out in the research phase? Admins should be able to make this decision. Not Google.
