That error typically shows up when the Recommendations AI service isn’t fully configured or there’s a permissions issue in the project.
I’d suggest double checking that the Recommendations AI API is enabled, the appropriate IAM roles are assigned to the service account and that a model has been successfully trained and deployed. It’s also worth confirming that your catalog and user event data were ingested correctly.
If everything looks fine on your end, it could potentially be an access or allowlisting issue.
If you can share a bit more about your setup, it would help narrow this down.

Thank you for your response. When I tried this on the Search for Commerce page, (https://console.cloud.google.com/ai/retail/catalogs/default_catalog/configs/similar_items/evaluate) I was logged in with my user account that has Owner role in the project. Is there any additional permissions that are needed?
As for the API being enabled, is it this one (see image)? If so, it is already enabled
