Why is the information from a database (in Google Sheets) not being updated correctly in a calculated field of a dashboard in Looker Studio? I am using the free version and I would like to be sure what the limitations are and if this could be the cause

The data you see in Looker Studio refreshes automatically at different cadences depending on the connector you are using. Using Google Sheets, it can automatically refresh at 4 different rates of your choosing, from 15 minutes to every 12 hours. You can also refresh the data manually. If you have created a calculated field then the numbers would be updated based on the entries you have done in your Database i.e. Google Sheets in this case
The issue of it not getting updated or giving an error maybe because the datatype in the Google sheets might not be the same as in Looker Studio f0or instance if you have entries of daily visits against dates and there are few entries with datatype as text and others are in Number then there will be an issue in calculating in Looker Studio
