Disappearing google sheet

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for urgent help. I built an app for a friend’s small business to track transactions, and we are suddenly getting a 404 File Not Found error for the data source, which is a google sheet on the user’s google account.

It seems like the google sheet has just disappeared. The user is not aware of having deleted that google sheet.

The app was working fine two weeks ago, but now it started to show an error, that the file is not found.

What we’ve checked so far:

  • The file is not in the owner’s Google Drive Trash.
  • I have the file id (url to the sheet) but it just shows filed has been deleted.
  • We’ve attempted a Google Drive file recovery with no luck.

Does anyone know if there is a way to recover the data? This data is critical for the business to track outstanding customer balances.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello @BlueTech,

This is quite interesting! If you have not, please try Recover a deleted Google Sheets spreadsheet, otherwise you will need to Contact Appsheet Support and they should be able to recover the file for you.

Note: Support is only available for licensed users

Please keep us posted!

I suggest contacting support as they would be able to recover whatever was deleted before

Please post a screenshot of this.

  1. If the file was deleted from gdrive a while ago, the trash is automatically emptied after 30 days.
  2. If the user used gdrive for desktop, this could also happen if the file was moved/deleted from there too (ex:an excel file from drive folder to desktop)
  3. If the user was not the owner of the file and it was a shared file, by removing the access, the user will lose the file (even between the same person multiple accounts). This was my case a while ago, when I used both a personal and a business gmail accounts. Also, at that point I found that the owner of a personal account file can not be changed to a business account owner
