Confusion with Identity Aware Proxy pricing

I am a little confused surrounding the pricing for IAP and wanted to get some clarification. In the GCP console when I go to enable it I see the price listed as $6/month for “Monthly Chrome Enterprise Premium Users” but per this community post it seems enabling it is free https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/Infrastructure-Compute-Storage/Need-help-understanding-Cloud-IAP-pricing-seems-confusing-to-me/m-p/648050?

My use case is fairly simple, I just want to have VM that I can SSH into without needing port 22 exposed. From this documentation it seemed like IAP was the solution since it allows SSH using the VM’s internal IP https://cloud.google.com/compute/docs/connect/ssh-using-iap. I understand I will be paying for the VM itself but does using IAP incur any additional charges here? If I am missing any documentation that could help me understand better, please let me know.

Hi** @saubhagya12 **,

Welcome to Google Cloud Community!

For your use case IAP will be free, just all the resources and networking behind will be billed. I imagine that in-browser ssh would’t be enough for your use case and you need IAP, but if that’s not the case in-browser connection it’s a great standalone solution with the same level of security
