Change Data Source in Bulk via API / Automation

Hi,

Is it possible to change data source from every apps in AppSheet in bulk through command/API/something else?

Background: There will be a database migration from a single entity to multiple entities. This implies that each entity will establish its own separate connection. The problem I face is having to open each app one by one to update the source table within it. Just imagine having 100 apps—the thought of it is daunting.

Thank you.

No, there is no such function.

If I understand correctly, you are splitting the data in 100 sets of tables and then want 100 app copies - each copy accessing a different table set?

If that is the case you may want to think that through VERY VERY carefully. Splitting the data in this manner would mean that a similar schema change might be needed to 100 tables sets. THEN, 100 apps would all need to be updated to the new schema and any app-side changes would be needed 100 times!!!

AppSheet was designed to handle multi-tenant apps. Meaning, you can have a single app and a single database serve any number of tenants/clients/customers you need WITHOUT fear of data being sent to the wrong user.

AppSheet has scaling/partitioning capabilities and user-based data filtering built into the platform. See the articles below for more details.

In AppSheet, can I know the connections used by each app (and ideally the table names) without having to open each app individually?

Nope.

As @Steve responded, there is no way to dynamically determine what datasources the app is utilizing. It would help to know your use case, why you would want to split the app into many datasources/apps and why you might want to dynamically know the data connections the app is using.

However, it might be helpful to note, that by using the AppSheet’s partitioning functionality, you CAN dynamically specify which table datasource the app uses. A partitioning expression is used and the results from that expression decide which partition/data table is loaded. See image below.

I hope this helps!!
