We’re experiencing an issue where photos captured or uploaded through the AppSheet app occasionally upload with the bottom half of the image replaced by a gray block.
What we’ve observed:
The photo looks perfectly normal in the phone’s Gallery.
The corrupted (half-gray) image only appears in AppSheet after upload.
It doesn’t happen on every photo, only occasionally.
The image column stores the file normally, but the uploaded image itself is corrupted.
Question:
Has anyone else seen this — a grey or blank section appearing only in the AppSheet-processed/saved image, while the original camera roll photo is unaffected? Is this a known issue with AppSheet’s image compression, and is there a setting that resolves it?
Any guidance would be much appreciated. Happy to share more details or screenshots if helpful.
Thanks, Steve. Is there any way to prevent this from happening? Should users wait until the image upload is fully complete before saving the form, or is there a setting or best practice in AppSheet to ensure the upload has finished?
Yes. If I re-upload the same image later, it uploads correctly. The issue only happens randomly with some images, not every time, and has started a few weeks ago. For example, if I upload 20 photos, around 2–3 may end up with the gray bottom half, while the rest upload normally. The original image in the phone’s gallery is always fine.
Do the problem images eventually fix themselves, or do they remain broken? If they remain broken, I’d have to guess the upload is getting interrupted at some point. Unfortunately, that would be very difficult to troubleshoot.
Some things to consider:
Does the user with broken uploads have a reliable internet connection?
Is the user closing the app or putting their phone to sleep before the app has sync’d completely?
Are there any automations or other processes interacting with the uploaded images?
