Automate and Elevate: Integrating Your CI/CD Pipeline with API hub | August 2025

Elevate your API strategy with this Apigee Community TechTalk: “Automate and Elevate: Integrating Your CI/CD Pipeline with API hub”.

Discover how to reduce developer burden and enhance API quality by embracing “Shift Down” principles and leveraging powerful platform infrastructure. This session highlights the critical role of automation, standardization, improved efficiency, and increased reliability across your API lifecycle, CI/CD, and APIOps.

Learn about key tools like apigee-go-gen, apigeelint, Maven Plugins, apigeecli, and Apickli that streamline your Apigee pipeline. A central focus is Apigee API hub, Google Cloud’s solution for centralizing APIs and metadata to create a unified catalog from chaotic landscapes. Gain actionable insights into your API ecosystem with features like Semantic API Search and Supply Chain Graph.

Apigee API hub also serves as a Source of Truth for Gemini Code Assist and Agentic Platforms, supporting a design-first approach to API development within your CI/CD environment.

Event Q&A Recap

A huge thank you to our amazing audience! Here’s a summary of your questions. If you have any further inquiries, please let us know.

  • Compatible with Cloud Deploy? For the CI/CD with Apigee X
A: Yes, ideally you can use your Delivery tool of your preference. All the tools presented by Christophe can be used by pretty much all the CICD tooling, just include the right tool in the right moment and orchestrate them

  • AAS and Akamai are similar tools?
We don’t like to make comparisons, but we can see AAS as an additional layer of security on top of the runtime, in order to use premium security capabilities using heuristics and ML models. Great thing, you don’t have to modify your proxies.
Another key advantage is that it doesn’t require the implementation of a data pipeline to feed Apigee traffic data to an external solution. Furthermore, AAS includes a risk assessment feature, enabling continuous and permanent scanning of all your proxy security configurations based on your defined security profile.

  • Q: Why should I subscribe for Apigee API hub when I already have a Developer portal?
The Apigee API hub is a centralized catalog for all APIs in an enterprise, regardless of their lifecycle stage, API style (REST, gRPC, etc.), or where they are hosted. It acts as the single source of truth for all API-related information. The Developer portal is a self-service platform designed for API consumers (application developers). It’s the public-facing “store” where developers discover and interact (test API, get credentials, …) with the APIs they need to build applications In short, the API hub is the comprehensive inventory and governance platform for all APIs within an organization, while the Developer Portal is the customized public-facing interface that exposes a subset of those APIs for a specific consumer audience (Application Developer). API hub can power the portal, ensuring that the information presented to developers is accurate and consistent : See https://developers.googleblog.com/en/apigee-api-hub-fueling-developer-portals/

  • Can I use API hub with Apigee OPDK (Private Cloud onprem version)?
We just released a new plug-in for Apigee EDGE and OPDK, this plug in allow us to get the metadata from these versions of Apigee. See https://cloud.google.com/apigee/docs/apihub/plugins and https://docs.apigee.com/private-cloud/v4.53.00/privatecloud-uapim-overview

  • Can you please provide the documentation of this new plugin for Edge and OPDK?
    API hub Plugin documentation: https://cloud.google.com/apigee/docs/apihub/plugins
API hub Apigee Edge plugin documentation: https://docs.apigee.com/api-platform/get-started/apigee-edge-uapim
API hub Apigee OPDK plugin documentation: https://docs.apigee.com/private-cloud/v4.53.00/privatecloud-uapim-overview

  • One thing I can’t quite understand is how are sorted the registered APIs in the table? Is it by creation datetime?
Correct, by default, API hub sorts API by creation date

  • What is solution on Apigeex? I have created a apiproxy using open api spec and I want to update the apiproxy using the updated open api spec but i don’t see any option to update it. Has anyone done it before?
It depends on how you created the proxy from specification (Apigee UI, tools…).
The recommended solution (apigee-go-gen) allows you to recreate a proxy from a new specification and then update the deployed version. See: https://apigee.github.io/apigee-go-gen/

  • Is there a way to existing api proxies into the api hub & version control with pipeline
Yes, when you first attach your Apigee organization to API hub, all the APIs will be discovered and integrated into API hub. Then, using your CICD pipeline, the API hub catalog will be updated with new version, through custom plugin or standard Apigee X/hybrid plugin (API is recognized with its fingerprint, see https://cloud.google.com/apigee/docs/apihub/curations).
