AlloyDB: BigQuery EXTERNAL_QUERY Connect to PostgreSQL server failed: timeout expired

Hi,

Since 12/11 we are seeing connection timeout to our AlloyDB cluster in europe-west9 from external query through BigQuery External connection.

Last known good query followed by first good query approx one hour appart (time are CET)

Error message:

“Invalid table-valued function EXTERNAL_QUERY Connect to PostgreSQL server failed: timeout expired at [1:15]”

The AlloyDB instance is up and running

I’ve already checked:

  • followed doc at https://cloud.google.com/bigquery/docs/connect-to-alloydb
  • checked the AlloyDB instance is running
  • checked IAM permission of the bigqueryconnection Service Agent
  • created a second connection
  • recreated the connection after disabling/enabling the bigqueryconnection API
  • adding all europe-west9 public ranges to “Authorised external networks” of the AlloyDB instance
  • restarted the AlloyDB instance

What I’ve not tried yet:

  • restarting the instance (no convenient time window ATM)

For the record, got an answer from the support today:

We found that due to a bug, the feature got disabled on your instance.
